Tractor type sounds from gearbox
hi all, just trying to iron out some issues with my 89 civic i just purchased. When in 3rd and 4th gear it seems to make a tractor like sound when under acceleration and also when gearing down. Sometimes the noise isnt there, but about 75% of the time it is. When the engine is in idle and reeving it doenst make the sound. Only when driving. it also has done it in 2nd gear on the very rare occasion. I just changed the gearbox oil, and it didnt make a difference. The old oil was a tad dirty, but there were no metal shavings in it, so im guessing its not broken gears. I thought it could possbibly also be engine tappets? I had a similar problem in an old car i had it would only do it under heavy load, not when i was reeving it at idle. Any ideas?

What exactly do you mean by a "tractor type sound?"

Or maybe is the differential, it sounds awfully bad (at least on other cars I have heard near) when needs to be replaced or repaired.

Hope you didn't pay more than 100 bucks for the car.
